South Portland City Council Meeting 10/21/13
South Portland City Council Meeting @ the South Portland City Hall; see this map.
On Monday, October 21, please join us for two forms of 350-style activism.
WHERE: South Portland City Hall, 25 Cottage Rd.; We’ll initially meet at the back entrance
WHEN: 6:30 pm
HOW: “Is Big Oil Buying Our Town?” street theater. Come dressed up in a business suit (with an ExxonMobil name tag) representing Big Oil. We’ll have some play money to represent the real money that Big Oil is using. Please make signs relative to the issue – including “Is Big Oil Buying Our Town?”
WHY: Because Big Oil IS buying our town – including via the influence on our current City Council (and candidates), our firefighters – and citizens (via robocalls, full page print and radio and television ads, mailings, etc.)
Start time: 7 pm
We need to turn-out as many people as possible to present evidence of support of the Waterfront Protection Ordinance (WPO) - both via their presence at the meeting…and via public testimony (see specific Talking Points).
- The expectation is that presentations will be civil and polite…but people should be allowed to say what they have to say
- South Portland residents should be strongly encouraged to attend and speak up – but there is no restriction via residency…reinforcing what “local” means…
- Please attempt to have distinct and unique comments to share – including being prepared with alternative comments if primary options are referred to by prior speakers
