A major event, Justice for the River, is being organized for Saturday, October 18, on Indian Island, Penobscot Nation. Justice for the River will feature local musicians and activists along with several special guests. The purpose is to raise funds for Penobscot legal defense of their river, which is threatened by the proposed East-West Corridor crossing it, a proposed 600-900-acre dump north of Indian Island and near Birch Stream, oil trains crossing the river en route to the New Brunswick Irving refinery, and a legal challenge from the State of Maine to Penobscot jurisdiction of their river.

350 Maine works with Stop the East-West Corridor (part of our tar sands resistance), which is supporting this event. The event organizers, Dawnland Defense, are seeking people who can volunteer time and energy helping out during the event. Dawnland Defense is finalizing the program and developing a team that is willing to work hard for the river and to ensure that guests have a great time for a worthy cause.
