June 24th Update: 350 Maine Events This Week

The summer is already heating up--both in terms of temperature and the climate movement here in Maine.

  • The plans for the 350 Maine Summer Heat action are coming together. On Saturday July 20th, there will be a flotilla on Sebago Lake to insist on keeping New England tar sands free. The Portland-Montreal Pipeline--which may be reversed to carry tar sands--runs no more than 500 feet from Sebago Lake--the drinking water source for Greater Portland and an important recreational and ecological center in Maine. We can't let tar sands put Sebago Lake - and all of Maine - at risk! You can read all about our plans for Summer Heat and RSVP by clicking here
  • Local 350 Maine chapters are in full swing as well. 350 Waldo will be meeting this Wednesday, June 26 in Belfast to talk about divestment, Summer Heat, fracking, and other local issues.
  • 350 Greater Portland will be meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 in the South Portland Community Center. It will be optional potluck, and we'll be talking about the Tar Sands Free Maine campaign.
    • At our Wednesday night Greater Portland meeting, we will be having special guests: the Climate Summer Riders, a group of young people who are spending their summer biking across Maine to work with communities on environmental campaigns. We look forward to welcoming them and talking about how we can work together during their stay.
