Urgent Call to Action--What's Going on at Portland Pipeline Company?

Communication Documentation as of 6/14/13

The following is an incomplete summary of communication related to the reported “oil pipeline issue” of 6/10/13.

Please see *** - a particularly notable revelation (bolded emphasis added).

Good afternoon,

I’m trying to find the details of what the actual issue was.  This is a PortlandWaterDistrict project.  Our City Engineer was just informed by the contractor that due to an oil pipeline issue the westbound section of the road would not be open for 5:00 P.M.  You can call PortlandWaterDistrict and try to get more information.

If I am able to get more information I will pass it along.

Sincerely,

Susan Mooney

City Clerk

I spoke with the South Portland public works department this morning. He said that he was not aware of an issue with the oil pipeline, but that the construction crews working to replace the waterline on Broadway may have run in to an issue with the oil pipeline but that he was not sure. He recommended I contact the pipeline company for more info.

Good morning,

The contractor working on the Broadway water main project disturbed the protective covering surrounding the oil pipeline.  Portland Pipeline made them repair the damage.  This is apparently a time consuming project and traffic was not going to be restored as usual at 5 PM.  I was alerting the public to not expect the section of Broadway to be open until the repair was completed.  I was alerted to the situation by the contractor, STI Site.

The Portland Water District has a project to replace their water main on Broadway in South Portland.  Excavation by their contractor in the proximity of our line required additional inspection of our line which delayed two way traffic beyond their typical 5 pm work schedule.  If you have any additional questions we suggest you contact the Portland Water District directly with regard to their water main project.
