CASCO, Maine -- The following is a press advisory announcing a public protest in the form of a celebration at Sebago Lake State Park aimed at educating the public about the dangers posed by transporting tar sands oil through this valuable water resource.
WHO: 350 Maine, Environment Maine, Sierra Club Maine, Food & Water Watch Maine, and Green Initiatives
WHAT: People’s flotilla and press conference, in concert with 350.org's Summer Heat campaign, a national campaign to end fossil fuel extraction.
WHERE: Sebago Lake State Park, Casco, ME (Grove Group Sites B, D, and beach)
WHEN: Saturday, July 20, 2013

WHY: To celebrate this clean source of water for the Greater Portland area and highlight the potential reversal of the Portland-Montreal pipeline―a project that would transport tar sands oil through Maine, endangering the water supply and our climate. The pipeline runs at its closest 500 feet from the lake. To highlight the dangers of tar sands extraction and its transport.
