OUR MISSION
350 Maine is a grassroots movement dedicated to fighting for climate justice. We grow our power collectively to find real and lasting solutions, to end our dependence on fossil fuels, and to build a healthy, sustainable life for people and the planet.
Climate Justice requires the recognition that the climate crisis was caused by failures of our political, social, and economic systems. It demands intersectional solutions that will transform these systems and hold those responsible for the climate crisis accountable, resulting in a livable future where all can thrive.
UPDATES
After exploring various avenues, in spring 2022 350 Maine transitioned from a staffed and funded volunteer-led organization to a smaller footprint group run exclusively by volunteers (which is how we began in the first place). Because of the great success of organizations that 350 Maine helped to found, sponsor, and support (see below), 350 Maine can now occupy a smaller footprint in statewide activity for climate justice.
We will continue to support climate justice efforts across the state and beyond. This support has now shifted to more of a "call to action" response effort as needs arise. We will continue to work to support the Wabanaki Alliance and our ongoing commitment to decolonize our behaviors.
Maine Youth for Climate Justice (MYCJ), the youth coalition that 350 Maine helped foster in 2019, is for youth and young adults under 30. You can subscribe to MYCJ’s newsletter here and continue to offer your support of youth activists by emailing cassie@mycj.org. If you are under 30, you can also sign up to join MYCJ here.
350 Maine co-founded the statewide coalition, Maine Climate Action Now (MCAN). You can subscribe to receive newsletters with calls to action, upcoming events and Maine news from climate and environmental organizations across the state. You can subscribe here.
MCAN has a Maine Climate Science Resource Library which has accessible information as to how the climate crisis is affecting Maine. Science page coming soon to MCAN website.
